Guide to Visiting International Schools in Thailand
Time:2025-05-29

I. Preliminary Planning

Clarify the purpose of the visit to the school

Before embarking on the school visit, parents must be clear about their purposes.

Is it to assess the teaching quality of the school or to pay attention to the campus environment and facilities?

Or do you want to know whether the school's curriculum meets your child's development needs?

Having a clear purpose helps to obtain information more specifically during the school visit.

For instance, if a child has a strong interest in art, then special attention should be

paid to aspects such as the school's art course resources, the configuration of art classrooms, and whether there are professional art teachers.

2. Screen the target schools

There are numerous international schools in Thailand, each with its own characteristics. Parents can screen out schools that meet their own

needs through online search, consulting educational institutions, and seeking advice from experienced parents. For example,

if you want your child to receive British education, you can focus on international schools that adopt the British curriculum system.

If you expect your child to study in an environment with a strong international atmosphere, you can pay attention to schools where

students and teachers come from multiple countries. During the screening process, factors such as the school's academic achievements, teaching staff,

and campus culture should be comprehensively considered.

3. Make an appointment for the school visit time

After determining the target school, it is necessary to contact the school's admissions office in a timely manner and make an

appointment for a school visit. Most schools require advance reservation. You can make the reservation through the contact

information provided on the school's official website, such as email, phone number or the online reservation system.

When making an appointment, you need to provide your personal information, the number of people visiting the school,

and the expected visiting date, etc. It is recommended to make an appointment at least one week in advance. For some popular schools,

you may need to do so even earlier to ensure a smooth visit. For instance, for some well-known international schools in Bangkok,

due to the large number of applicants, it is not excessive to make an appointment one month in advance.

Preparations for School Visit

4. Understand the basic information of the school

Before visiting the school, it is necessary to fully understand the basic situation of the school, including its history,

curriculum system, enrollment policies, tuition standards, etc. Obtaining this information through channels

such as the school's official website and promotional materials can enable parents to communicate more smoothly with the

admissions officers during their visits to the school and ask more valuable questions. For instance, if a school adopts the International

Baccalaureate Organization (IB) curriculum, parents can learn about the characteristics and requirements of the IB curriculum in advance,

so as to ask the school how it implements the curriculum and the possible challenges students may face during the learning process when visiting the school.

5. Prepare a list of questions

In order to obtain the most crucial information within the limited school visit time, parents should prepare a

detailed list of questions. The problems can cover multiple aspects such as teaching, faculty, campus life and further education.

For instance, in terms of teaching, one can ask about the distinctive features of the school's teaching methods and

how they meet the learning needs of different students. In terms of teaching staff, understand the qualifications and

teaching experience of the teachers, as well as the turnover rate of the teachers. In terms of campus life, pay attention

to the types of extracurricular activities in the school and whether there are any club organizations, etc. Regarding further education,

inquire about the destinations of the school's graduates and what further education guidance services the school offers, etc.

Carry the necessary materials

When visiting the school, it is recommended to bring some necessary materials, such as the child's report card,

award certificates, personal resume, etc. (if the child already has them). These materials can more intuitively

demonstrate the child's learning ability and specialties when communicating with the admissions officers,

which is helpful for the admissions officers to better understand the child. At the same time, it also indicates the parents' emphasis on their child's education.

Ii. On-site school visits

Visit to the campus environment and facilities

After arriving at the school, there are usually admissions officers or student volunteers who will lead you on a tour of the campus.

During the visit, pay attention to whether the overall layout of the campus is reasonable and whether the environment is clean and beautiful.

Observe whether the facilities such as classrooms, laboratories, libraries, gymnasiums and art studios are complete and advanced.

For example, modern laboratories should be equipped with advanced experimental equipment to meet the teaching needs of science courses;

Libraries should have a rich collection of books and a comfortable reading environment.

The gymnasium should have various sports fields to facilitate students in carrying out all kinds of sports activities.

2. Experience the teaching atmosphere

If conditions permit, one can apply to observe a class and experience the teaching atmosphere of the school in person.

Observe whether the teacher's teaching methods are vivid and interesting, and whether they can stimulate students'

interest in learning; How engaged are the students in class? Do they think actively and speak up enthusiastically?

Whether the classroom order is good and whether the interaction between teachers and students is harmonious.

Through these observations, one can have a more intuitive understanding of the teaching quality of the school.

3. Communicate with the admissions officer

Communication with the admissions officers is an important part of the school visit. During the communication process,

it is necessary to consult in detail the previously prepared questions, such as the school's admission standards,

the content and form of the entrance examination, the application process and time nodes, etc. At the same time,

you can also introduce your child's situation to the enrollment teachers and listen to their suggestions.

For example, if a child's English proficiency is weak, one can ask the school whether there are tutorial courses or improvement plans for students with weak English.

4. Communicate with students on campus

Communicating with students on campus can obtain more authentic information about campus life.

You can ask them about their opinions on the school curriculum, their favorite subjects and activities,

the study pressure at school, and whether the relationships among classmates are harmonious, etc.

From the students' responses, one can understand whether the learning atmosphere, teacher-student relationship

and campus culture of the school are in line with the children's personalities and needs.

Follow-up to the school Visit

5. Organize the information of school visits

After the school visit, the information obtained should be sorted out in a timely manner. By comparing and analyzing

the strengths and weaknesses of different schools as well as one's own feelings, a table can be made to list information

such as school names, campus environment, teaching quality, faculty strength, curriculum Settings, enrollment policies,

and tuition fees one by one, so as to make a clearer comparison.

Determine the application intention

Based on the school visit information compiled, combined with the actual situation of the family and the child's wishes,

determine the application intention. If you are very satisfied with a certain school, you can start preparing the application materials.

If there are still doubts, you can further consult materials or consult professionals, or consider visiting the school again.

6. Keep in touch with the school

After confirming the application intention, it is necessary to keep in touch with the school. Prepare the application materials

as required by the school and submit them in a timely manner. If you have any questions during the application process,

you can communicate with the admissions officer at any time. At the same time, pay attention to the school's official channels,

such as the official website and wechat official account, to obtain the latest enrollment information and updates.
